If you are planning to go on a family holiday in the near future, but are not sure where to go then you may want to consider visiting Portugal. This beautiful country has something for everyone whether you are young old. The village of Alvor is highly recommended for family holidays. It is well known for its old cobbled streets, and it is really picturesque.

Alvor has a beautiful sandy beach (Alvor beach) which is 4 miles long, and one of the great things about it is it's rarely crowded, unlike the beaches in some of the other nearby resorts. This means that it won't be too difficult for you to find a nice spot for all of you to relax and sunbathe, while your children play nearby.

If you are looking for a good bar or restaurant, head towards the town or the river front. The restaurants serve some of the most delicious Portuguese cuisine and fish dishes, however there are also Chinese, Indian and Italian ones. You'll also notice that there are quite a few Irish bars and English pubs. During the night the bars have live music, and most of them have Sky TV showing the football. You'll be glad to know that this particular area of Portugal is very family orientated, and most bars and restaurants are very welcoming to children, so it is not a problem if you bring them with you.

During the day you may want to visit the water park, which is great for adults and kids alike. You can also visit some of the historical sites such as the remains of an 800 year old castle. There are also other sites for you to see in Lagos which is nearby, such as an ancient fort. While in Lagos you also have the option of taking a boat tour of the caves in the area, and they look amazing!
