(Portuguese for Saint Michael), also known as the "Green Island," is the
largest and most populous of the Azores Islands. The island has around
140,000 inhabitants; the largest town is Ponta Delgada, with about 30,000
inhabitants. The Sete Cidades lagoons are formed by two craters that have
a perimeter of 12 km (7.5 miles). The inhabitants are known as Micaelense. |

in an elevated position. It has spectacular views over the historic
town of Vila Franca do Campo and the sea beyond. This area benefits
from a special microclimate and has some beautiful small beaches. During
daytime, one can take a ferry to the nearby Ilhéu (a volcanic outsprung)
and swim in the natural lagoons. In Vila Franca one finds a water park,
as well as shopping facilities, restaurants and coffee shops. The two island's
golf clubs are 20 and 30 minutes drive from property. The island capital

driving minutes distant. In Genets you find a supermarket, a bank teller,
post office and chemist, as well as Ferrari, with lava formations and a
hot seawater spring. The capital city Ponta Delgado, with its international
airport and all sorts of shopping facilities is 25 km. |
