"Casa
de Eiriz", is a recently renovated XVII century rural manor house in the
North of Portugal, halfway between the cities of Vila Real and Chaves.
It is now open for tourism on a bed and breakfast basis or as a self-catering
unit.
“Casa de Eiriz” is a rural
manor house that has always belonged to the Madureira e Castro family (Souza
Magalhães de Madureira e Castro). The first known written document
indicates that the first owner of the “Casa da Quinta de Eiriz” was Mateus
de Magalhães Ferraz, captain in the XVII century war between Portugal
and Spain, who became a sheriff in Vila Pouca de Aguiar and died in Eiriz
in 1717.
The house
dates from the XVII century and includes a turret and a chapel. The main
entrance gate is built in carved granite, and features a coat of arms and
a niche where it is believed there was an image of St Anthony which has
unfortunately disappeared.
The house has been recently
renovated keeping the characteristic features. Casa de Eiriz is now open
for tourism. You can simply spend a few days in the house on a bed and
breakfast basis or you can rent the whole house for minimum periods of
a week. It can also be rented for events such as wedding receptions and
parties.
Accommodation
The house was recently renovated
making a feature of the granite walls. At the same time, comfort was kept
in mind. For example, the windows are the traditional sash windows but
they are now double glazed so insulation was improved. For the comfort
of the guests, the entire house has central heating, which is particularly
important in the cold winter months.
There are 5 double rooms,
all en-suite and individually decorated. The cosy lounge with a fire and
a TV and the large dining room are also for the guests’ use.
Gardens
and Grounds
In the grounds you will find
a well restored grain-store, a fountain dating from the XVIII century,
and a stream running through the farm.
The house is set in approximately
50 acres of land, half of which are woods, where you can take a long stroll.
The large lawns around the
house are the perfect setting for relaxing or enjoying the view over the
Vale de Aguiar and Serra do Alvão.
In the lawn there is also
an ancient granite water reservoir where you can bathe.
