two identical windmills have been restored to the highest standard to give
unusual 3 bedroomed accommodation with two swimming pools. The tower
of the mill has been converted to provide two bedrooms each with a double
bed and an en-suite shower room. Access is by a spiral staircase
outside the room. The ground floor of the mill is now the entrance
hall with the staircase going to the bedrooms above. A sofa bed in
the entrance hall provides an additional bed for one adult or two children. |

Casal
do Outeiro VD 701H, Lousada
The
original house was built in the 14th century and records show that it was
owned by the family of Martim Gonçales Alcoforado to whom D. João
I, king of Portugal, gave the local lands in 1390. The house was
partially destroyed by fire and remained derelict until the recent restoration.
The ancient kitchen chimney, in which it is possible to stand inside, is
now a feature in the very large guests' sitting room with a high barn construction
ceiling. Nowadays, guests have no need to prepare food in the traditional
manner, a wooden unit opens to become a kitchenette for the preparation

airport are now offered by a number of airlines. Alternatives, are the
Spanish airports of Vigo and Santiago de Compostela which are reached by
motorway. |

"Casa
de Eiriz", is a recently renovated XVII century rural manor house in the
North of Portugal, halfway between the cities of Vila Real and Chaves.
It is now open for tourism on a bed and breakfast basis or as a self-catering
unit. “Casa de Eiriz” is a rural manor house that has always belonged
to the Madureira e Castro family (Souza Magalhães de Madureira e
Castro). The first known written document indicates that the first owner
of the “Casa da Quinta de Eiriz” was Mateus de Magalhães Ferraz,
captain in the XVII century war between Portugal and Spain, who became
a sheriff in Vila Pouca de Aguiar and died in Eiriz in 1717. |
